Doctoral Thesis

Title: Interpretation Design: Building Knowledge From Practice

Institution: Swinburne University of Technology

Year: 2013

My PhD research examines the practice of interpretation design, its foundations, processes and products. Interpretation design communicates with visitors through a range of design forms, media and methods, integrating traditional specialised fields.
The thesis presents a typology of design outcomes based around thinking, feeling and doing, the modes of engagement through which designers aim to educate, engage and inspire audiences, encouraging social interaction, play and meaning-making.
