Research

I am a researcher and educator in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT Melbourne. I research and write about interpretation, design, qualities of human experience and our relationship with the natural world.

Seeking to strengthen the relationship between practice and theory in interpretation planning and design, I undertook a PhD at Swinburne University  from 2010-2013. The research investigates the role of designers in interpretation projects,  examines the factors that impact on the practice of interpretation design in zoos and museums and proposes models of the foundations and characteristics of interpretation design practice.

I am available for postgraduate supervision.

Ongoing research activities at RMIT include:

  • Design Futures Lab
  • Non-Fiction Research Group
  • Design Research Institute Early Career Research group (DRI ECR), organisers of The Turn event series.
  • Writing for Design Students project supported by Global Learning by Design
